Mobile vs Desktop Website Content

The content on your Mobile Phone should be different from the content on your desktop because of the space dedicated to the screen size and the person consuming the content. Chances are that the person on the cell phone looking for a restaurant doesn't want to wade through a bunch of web pages looking for a food item and the person on the desktop has both the time and the screen space to see everything you want to display, including the restaurant decor, the patio, function room and buffet.

Just look around you one day, I mean really take a look around you. Everybody has a cell phone and if it is not in their hand (right now) it is very close to them. People drive looking at their phone (that?s another post), people sit in front of the TV and they are looking at their phone and let me give you one more example.

The bathroom?and don?t play dumb. You may have taken your phone in there because you were already on the phone and didn?t want to hang up or you are expecting a phone call and don?t want to miss it.

Either way?there is voice mail which I tend to use often because I don?t want to talk to anyone (just kidding).

So take into consideration the age and attention span of mobile devise users. As one of my mentors described it ? it?s a total game changer.

Chances are anyone under 25 years old is scrolling through their News Feed like they have a train or bus to catch. The older more seasoned mobile user (me) tend to scroll a lot slower to consume information and not just look at video or pictures.

Needless to say you have a limited time to get a mobile device users attention than you do someone on a desktop or tablet and so the content on your mobile site should be different and less wordy. You pretty much have to get to the point very quickly (5 to 10 seconds) or offer a reason to stay on the site like maybe 20% off your next purchase?Just Click Here To Get Your Coupon.

I have a desktop (video editing and creation), I use a mobile phone so I can see what the website or ad will look like on mobile and I have a Chromebook. Now much to my surprise the Chromebooks operates more like a cell phone or tablet than a desktop so you also have to consider tablets and laptops (yes people still do have laptops) when you start thinking about how much content you will have on any particular device.

Some developers will create one responsive website so it includes everything on the website and just adjust depending on the device used while other developers will create two different websites reducing the amount of content on the mobile website for easier consumption.
